Parents, ask your children about their Explorer Passports
Explorer Passports will be delivered to schools on Friday, May 18. The Passports give children free admission to parks and attractions in Prince William County. Start off this Saturday at the HCHY EXPO at Pfitzner Stadium, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. View map of activities and schedule of events.

Kerrydale Readers & Potomac Nationals Baseball!
This spring, the Potomac Nationals, minor league team of the Washington Nationals, is sponsoring a Reading Incentive Program at Kerrydale. Students who read 4 books and return the completed bookmark to school by Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 will receive 2 FREE tickets to the Potomac Nationals baseball game on Friday, May 18th!
The Kerrydale Day at the Potomac Nationals Stadium is Friday, May 18th at 7:05pm. Kerrydale students can parade into the stadium with Uncle Slam to celebrate their reading achievement. The parade is held before the game. If students want to participate in the parade, the students need to be lined up in front of the field gate by 6:05pm. READ and HAVE FUN with the POTOMAC NATIONALS!!!
Start your day in a healthy way!
Join us for our May Walk to School Day on Friday, May 18th. Join Kerrydale staff and students as we walk to Kerrydale at 8:20am. Please meet us at the corner of Ketterman Drive and Kerrydale Road or the corner of Hendricks Drive and Kerrydale Road. If the weather is inclement, the walk will be inside the school using the hallways. What a great and healthy way to start off your day!

Kerrydale Summer School Registration
It's time to start making summer plans! Kerrydale will be hosting an exciting summer school program. Summer school is provided free of charge, for students who qualify for remediation in the areas of reading and mathematics. Free breakfast and lunch will be offered to all summer school students! Summer school will be held July 9-27, 2012 from 9:00-12:30.
All 5th Graders will be attending Summer School at Graham Park Middle School. Registration forms which will be coming home with your child this month. Please return your child's application as soon as possible to ensure him/her a spot. If you want more information or have any questions, please contact Mrs. Najjum-Evans, Kerrydale’s Summer school Principal at 703-590-1262 or at najjumkx@pwcs.edu. We hope your child will join us for an exciting summer of learning!

PARENTS - If you have not created your own account on Parent Portal, or you need to edit your contact information, now is the time.
FRIDAY, 1 JUNE - Parent Portal Registrations and Online Contact Editing will be turned off and no further registration or edits will be accepted until after the new school year transition. NO NEW PARENT ACCOUNTS WILL BE CREATED UNTIL FALL.
MONDAY, 18 JUNE - All updates to Parent Portal will stop and no further data updates will be sent to SchoolFusion until Fall. Any pending parent registrations that have not been processed will be deleted and those parents will need to reapply next year.
Parent Portal WILL NOT be updated with Summer School Information and no Summer School Information will be sent to SchooolFusion.

Missing items? Check the Lost & Found.
We have accumulated lots of jackets, lunch boxes, scarves, umbrellas, etc in the Kerrydale Lost and Found. If your child is missing anything, please stop by the cafeteria to claim any missing items. All items not claimed by the last day of school will be donated to charity. Thanks for your help!
Kerrydale is a School of Excellence!
Congratulations to our students, staff and community for helping Kerrydale achieve this award! Superintendent of Schools Steven L. Walts has named Kerrydale Elementary a Prince William County Public School's “School of Excellence” in the Division’s annual school awards program. Schools that attain this designation must demonstrate high levels of performance. A School of Excellence must be fully accredited by the state, make Adequate Yearly Progress under the No Child Left Behind Act, and achieve an overall score of 90 out of 100 points on PWCS Strategic Plan-based measures. Selection is based on performance in the 2010–11 school year. Only 18 of 92 schools achieved this accomplishment this year. We are so proud!

Kerrydale was awarded the 2012 Virginia Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award in the Virginia Index of Performance incentive program created by the Virginia Board of Education.
The Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award recognizes school divisions and schools that achieve excellence goals and far exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards for at least two consecutive years and made progress toward the goals of the governor and the board.

Help the Earth & Kerrydale!
Kerrydale collects and receives money for every ink or toner printer cartridge or old cell phone we recycle. The cartridges are recycled and if the phones can still be used, they go to a women’s violence charity to help women who need them or they get recycled as well. Please help Kerrydale work towards a cleaner earth while earning money to help our technology program. Cartridges and phones can be sent in with your child anytime or brought up to the computer lab and dropped off in the big box in the mailroom or in the front of the lab. In the past, we have used the money to purchase student software, digital cameras, headphones and other equipment. Thank you in advance for your support!
New Parent Communication Portal Information
We are now processing applications for a parent user name and password to login into Parent Portal. Parent Portal is PWCS' new parent communication system. Once you have recieved your user name and password, you can access your child's information, grades, and edit emergency information.
To create your account, please click on the left hand bottom link entitled Parent Portal, and then First Time Registration.
Once you have registered for a Parent Portal account, you will receive an email within 3-5 business days that includes your username and temporary password. Print and sign the email. Then bring the printed and signed email to the front office with government issued photo ID, any school day during business hours. Your government issued photo ID will be verified and your account will be activated within 2 business days.
If you had an Edulink and/or Schoolfusion account last year, that no longer exists, so you must register for a Parent Portal account this year due to new software. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we get this up and running!
