Shop for School Tax-Free before School Begins; Virginia Sales Tax Holiday is August 1–3
July 21, 2014

School supplies selling for $20 or less per item and articles of clothing, including footwear, selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax during the Virginia Sales Tax Holiday scheduled for Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3.

Families with children in Prince William County Public Schools are encouraged to take advantage of these savings to prepare their students for the upcoming school year. Check your school’s Web site or call your school for a copy of the 2014–15 supply list. For a directory of schools, go to pwcs.edu and click on “Schools,” then select the directory by grade level.

Beginning July 28, SPARK, the Education Foundation for PWCS, will collect school supplies at the Kelly Leadership Center to help ensure that all student have the back-to-school basics they need to return to school ready to learn. The Kelly Leadership Center is located at 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112
Most-needed items include backpacks, 3-ring binders, tabbed dividers, folders with pockets, spiral notebooks, loose-leaf paper, colored pencils, pencil boxes/bags, tissues, hand sanitizer, marble composition books, ink pens (blue or black), No. 2 pencils, washable markers, crayons, highlighters, glue/glue sticks, rounded scissors, index cards, and graph paper.

Kerrydale's Summer School is underway!
Kerrydale's exciting site-based Summer School program for K-Grade 4 students, will begin on  Monday, July 7, 2014 and run through Friday, July 25, 2014, from 9-12:30pm. Breakfast will start at 8:50am. Free breakfast and lunch will be offered to all Summer School students. Free breakfast (8:40-9:00am) and lunch (11:30am-12:30pm) is available to community members who are under the age of 18. Students are expected to attend every day of the program. All 5th Graders, participating in Summer School, will attend Beville Middle School. We hope your child will join us for an exciting summer of learning!
First Annual Health Screening & Health Fair
Join us for the First Annual Health Screening & Health Fair to be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 9am-1pm at Hylton High School.  All students are welcome to attend, including those without health insurance. Free school-entry physicals, free sports physicals, vision and hearing screenings, concussion trainings for MS/HS, health and wellness information, free give aways and MUCH MUCH MORE! School Office Summer Hours
Kerrydale's Office will be closed for new student registrations through July 25th.  The front office will begin accepting new student registrations starting on Monday, July 28th from 10am-2pm.  Please call ahead to ensure the office is open, as sometimes the hours may change.  Have a great summer!
Tax Holiday for School Supplies Set for August
During the first weekend in August, August 1-3 purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax. Retailers may also choose to absorb the tax on other items during the holiday period, but they are responsible for paying the tax on those items to the Department of Taxation. Go to Virginia's tax holiday page for additional information. What a great way to help save on purchases for the new school year!

New Student Registration
Kerrydale's office registers students daily, from 10am-2pm, Monday - Friday.  Kerrydale's Office is CLOSED until Monday, July 28th. Keep learning this summer!
You can use Raz Kids, Type to Learn 4, Study Island and solpass.org all summer long on most internet enabled devices. All Kerrydale students have access to all of our internet based learning sites through August 25th. If you have any questions or your child forgot their log in information, please email Mrs. Wingo Ermold at wingomm@pwcs.edu.  New log in information for Kerrydale students will be issued in the fall. Shop, save and collect this summer!

Kerrydale collects box tops, soup labels, used cell phones and chargers, and all ink cartridges to support our school throughout the year. These items are collected and then are redeemed to support Kerrydale’s various programs. Please keep
collecting them over the summer.  Ask your work or office if you can have their used ink cartridges for your child’s school. If you shop at Giant, Safeway and Target, registering your cards on their website and using them while shopping, also supports Kerrydale. They provide monetary and product donations to our school. To find our school  codes and store websites, please click here. Rising 6th Graders - Becoming a Bobcat Summer Orientation
In and effort to help provide a smooth transistion and provide support and assistance to incoming 6th grade students and parents, Beville Middle School is inviting your child to participate in a two-day transistion session, called Becoming a Bobcat. The Becoming a Bobcat program will be held at Beville Middle School on August 21-22 from 8am-12pm.  Click here for the registration form.  If you would like your child to participate in this valuable oppurtunity, please complete the attached form, and return as directed.  All forms must be returned by August 1st. Breakfast will be provided for you and your child on Thursday, August 21st, for the introductory session beginning at 8am. The bus schedule is in the attached packet. Parent Portal Summer Information

Parent Portal registration is now closed for parents who do not yet have a Parent Portal user account. If parents who have registered do not receive their new user login by June 1, they must re-register in the fall when the registration process goes back online. To see more details about how parents can register for a user account, go the Parent Portal Information Page.

For parents who already have a Parent Portal account, the ability to edit your Parent Portal contact information online will be disabled and no further edits will be accepted after June 1. However parents may visit the school office to update their contact information in person. Parents and students will be able to view grades, attendance and contact information up to June 30. Edit capability will be back online in late August (date to be announced.) Please check our web page for more information in the fall.

Kerrydale Elementary was named a 2013 PWCS School of Excellence!  The PWCS School of Excellence is awarded to those schools who have demonstrated excellent progress in student achievement. A School of Excellence must be fully accredited by the state, make Adequate Yearly Progress under the No Child Left Behind Act, and achieve an overall score of 90 out of 100 points on PWCS Strategic Plan-based measures.  Great job students, parents, staff and teachers!  Keep up the great work!
