Kerrydale Announcements
Kerrydale is a School of Excellence!
Congratulations to our students, staff and community for helping Kerrydale achieve this award! Superintendent of Schools Steven L. Walts has named Kerrydale Elementary as 1 of 18 Prince William County Public Schools as a “School of Excellence” in the Division’s annual school awards program. Schools that attain this designation must demonstrate high levels of performance. A School of Excellence must be fully accredited by the state, make Adequate Yearly Progress under the No Child Left Behind Act, and achieve an overall score of 90 out of 100 points on PWCS Strategic Plan-based measures. Selection is based on performance in the 2010–11 school year. We are so proud!

Kerrydale was awarded the 2012 Virginia Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award in the Virginia Index of Performance incentive program created by the Virginia Board of Education.
The Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award recognizes school divisions and schools that achieve excellence goals and far exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards for at least two consecutive years and made progress toward the goals of the governor and the board.
A HUGE THANK YOU goes to our students, staff and parents for all of your hard work that makes awards like this possible!

Cardinal Voices Resumes in February
Attention all 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade CV Members: Cardinal Voices Rehearsals will start back up, under the direction of Miss Pettit, on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:45am. Rehearsals will be held every Wednesday at 7:45am in the Music Trailer. Any questions, please contact Miss Pettit.

Kerrydale art students get published in a national art book!
Kerrydale Elementary art teacher, Karin Godwin, submitted 25 selected photo images of 25 students’ art work ranging from First through Fifth grades in Spring of 2011. This past Summer, the editor congratulated her on having every student submission accepted for publication in a book and online. The national contest, sponsored by CelebratingArt.com, provides a means of student recognition, exposure to a larger audience and art preservation. The art is published in full color, hardbound, as an anthology of “The Best OF.” There is also an online access: www.celebratingart.com Mrs. Godwin and Jason, our Top Ten winner and artist of the artwork to the left, received a free copy of the book mailed out in October. Anyone wishing to purchase a copy, may do so through the website. The book is $34.
Middle School Specialty Program Information
Fifth Grade students who are interested in applying to any of the Middle School Specialty Programs need to turn in applications for any of the programs by Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Join us for a Walk to School Mornings!
Please come join us for our Walk to School mornings on Friday, February 3rd and 17th. Meet us at 8:20am at the corner of Ketterman Drive and Kerrydale Road. You can also meet us at the corner of Hendricks Drive and Kerrydale Road. If the weather is inclement, the students will walk inside the hallways of the school. Please join us for a healthy start to your morning!
PWCS Report Cards
Your child's report card for the second quarter will be sent home on Monday, February 6th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher. Thank you for being a partner in your child's education!
February's Principal's Tea
You are invited to stop by the office on Tuesday, February 14th from 9:15-10:15am to visit with Dr. Leonard and hear about what's happening at Kerrydale. This is also your chance to share any questions and learn more about Kerrydale Elementary. Light refreshments will be served. President's Day Holiday

Join us for Dr. Suess' Family Reading Night
On Wednesday, February 29th from 5:30-6:30pm in the Media Center, Kerrydale will hold their Dr. Suess Family Reading Night! Come and help us celebrate Dr. Suess' Birthday. There will be awesome and fun stories to be read by all, refreshments and drawings for prizes. Dress up as your favorite Dr. Suess or book character to add to the fun. This will be your chance to check out booksto help your child/ren read and have fun too! Hope you can join us!

Help the Earth & Kerrydale!
Kerrydale collects and receives money for every ink or toner printer cartridge or old cell phone we recycle. The cartridges are recycled and if the phones can still be used, they go to a women’s violence charity to help women who need them or they get recycled as well. Please help Kerrydale work towards a cleaner earth while earning money to help our technology program. Cartridges and phones can be sent in with your child anytime or brought up to the computer lab and dropped off in the big box in the mailroom or in the front of the lab. In the past, we have used the money to purchase student software, digital cameras, headphones and other equipment. Thank you in advance for your support!
New Parent Communication Portal Information
We are now processing applications for a parent user name and password to login into Parent Portal. Parent Portal is PWCS' new parent communication system. Once you have recieved your user name and password, you can access your child's information, grades, and edit emergency information.
To create your account, please click on the left hand bottom link entitled Parent Portal, and then First Time Registration.
Once you have registered for a Parent Portal account, you will receive an email within 3-5 business days that includes your username and temporary password. Print and sign the email. Then bring the printed and signed email to the front office with government issued photo ID, any school day during business hours. Your government issued photo ID will be verified and your account will be activated within 2 business days.
If you had an Edulink and/or Schoolfusion account last year, that no longer exists, so you must register for a Parent Portal account this year due to new software. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we get this up and running!
